Library Strategic Plan 2022-2027
Introduction
Welcome to UC San Diego Library's Strategic Plan for 2022–2027, our roadmap for investment and assessment created through a collaborative campus-wide effort. This plan is tightly aligned with the goals outlined in UC San Diego’s 2024 Strategic Plan Update and the Strategic Plan for Inclusive Excellence.
Through this plan we commit to:
- Provide access to essential information resources and innovative spaces for teaching, learning, and research.
- Advance diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and social justice in the context of libraries and information access.
- Leverage the expertise of our dedicated employees to enable high-impact learning and research experiences for students and faculty.
Building on our past successes and the invaluable contributions of our employees, we strive to support the academic, research, and public-service mission of UC San Diego.
Our annual planning and assessments will be guided by this plan, with initiatives reviewed and adapted each year to ensure we continue to make progress towards our vision. The assessment framework details the strategies, directions, and intended outcomes of our work.
Supporting UC San Diego's Strategic Plan
Through a collaborative strategic planning process, the Library has identified four core pillars to guide our efforts through 2027. Each pillar supports UC San Diego’s updated strategic goals and overall mission to “transform California and a diverse global society by educating, generating and disseminating knowledge and creative works, providing high-quality health care, and engaging in public service."
Pillar 1: Democratization of Knowledge
Pillar 1 of the Library’s strategic plan focuses on advocating for and making the university's knowledge openly available, enabling the UC San Diego community to use this knowledge for positive societal impact. By investing in open access, developing shared collections, and innovating in research data curation and publication, the Library aims to amplify the impact of scholarship generated by students, faculty, and staff.

Pillar 2: Innovation and Inquiry
Pillar 2 of the Library’s strategic plan emphasizes information literacy, access, and fostering a sense of belonging and agency in physical and virtual spaces to enhance the library experience. By inspiring innovation, promoting critical inquiry, and providing inclusive instruction in information literacy, the Library aims to support scholars in developing new research questions, improving teaching and learning skills, and increasing campus and civic engagement.

Pillar 3 of the Library's strategic plan is dedicated to advancing social justice by ensuring equitable resource allocation, fostering a sense of belonging, and respecting all community members. In alignment with UC San Diego's broader strategic plans, the Library aims to deepen its commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility through community engagement, thoughtful investments, and efforts to address academic opportunity gaps.
