Library Cards and Checkout Periods
- Current UC San Diego students, faculty, and staff: Your UC San Diego ID card is your library card. Must have a physical ID card or virtual ID via the UC San Diego app for services (substitutes not accepted).
- Community Borrowers must present valid government-issued photo identification (photos not accepted) with a borrower card at checkout.
- Other users are eligible for checkout privileges upon registration. Select your affiliation below to find out the details.
- Select groups are eligible to receive scanned articles and book chapters of UCSD-owned materials and/or to request non-UCSD-owned items from other libraries.

Concurrently-enrolled students are those who are not regular UC San Diego students, but are taking regular UC San Diego courses for credit as a non-matriculated student and paying per-unit fees through UC San Diego's Division of Extended Studies. Concurrent students earn full academic credit and participate in courses as regular UC San Diego students, subject to the same conditions, requirements, and standards.

A Visiting Scholar is a scholar from another institution who visits the University for the purposes of participating in a University-sponsored educational program, cooperative agreement, or collaborative research project under the supervision of a UC San Diego faculty, for a short period of time. Visiting Scholars are entitled to the use of the Library and their Campus ID Card functions as their library card.
In order for a Visiting Scholar to check out Library materials, the department must properly enter the Visiting Scholar into UC Path with an expiration date and have provided the scholar with a UC San Diego email account. Please contact LibraryBorrowing@ucsd.edu with any questions or problems.
